03's Dorm

MX-Z0: KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK

...Oh. Well, who could be rapidly knocking on their door at this hour? It was so peaceful, lying on this bed and staring at the ceiling in contemplation...

But...she's familiar with that sort of knocking rhythm. With a sigh, she gets up from her abode and opens the door for him.

Don: "Mix!" Don says the moment he sees her face, trilling. "Ahahah, well, just who I was looking for!"

MX-Z0: "...You came to my room, dad."

Don: He pauses. "...Yes!"

Without warning, he throws up the book he found, showing it to her. "Look what I found!"

MX-Z0: Oh. Hm.

She tilts her head, seeing the lack of any symbols on the cover and rather dated look of this book...

"What...is this?"

Don: "I don't know! I found it in Tarnish's room, that is all! It's in...that one language. Glith, I think."

MX-Z0: "...You were in a dead person's room...why?"

Don: "..."

...Uh. Erm.

"I was a little curious, because he was kind of a weird guy. And I found cool stuff, so I think its okay! Your boyfriend was there too. He said they found this book in the big cathedral that blew up."

MX-Z0: "...Stranger is not my "boyfriend". Please do not use that phrase." She beeps with a huff, before taking the book from him.

"Regardless, I am able to translate and read this book for you. Though perhaps it is best to do that behind closed doors...there is no telling what is inside this.

Don: "Oooh, ahahah, secrets! Okay!"

He takes his time entering the dorm, immediately flopping onto her bed without explanation.

MX-Z0: But Mixzo pays it no mind. She's already making sure the door's locked and prying into the book...and the first page is already a shock to her.

???: THE LAST ARCHIVE OF FALL

They are trying to erase what happened that fall from all records. They are trying to erase her...her memory, her wishes...they are betraying a hero of calamity, but I will not let them.

The following book is to be vital to the Glowdepth Library, and must not leave the library for any reason. In current times, I fear that attempting to reveal this information to the larger world will be met with violence by the people changing the course of history...

Regardless, this is the end of my ramblings. Beyond this introductory page is the tale of Wren, who is destined to be forgotten by the society which betrayed her. To all my fellow Glowdepth; heed the lesson well, and learn of our duty as lorekeepers.

MX-Z0: (...Wren...that name feels so familiar...)

Her mind lights up with activity, trying to recall all she can...but all that comes up is that dumb card with a shared title. The card that was used to save Arsenic's life....the card that...

She beeped, as if to distract her thoughts from wandering to a deep, dark place. Don took notice.

Don: "Ahah? What does it, ah, say?"

MX-Z0: "...Dad, are you aware of who 'Wren' is?"

Don: "Hmm...no, I remember nothing! Hah, ahahah...sorry."

MX-Z0: "No need to be sorry. It's just...it feels so familiar to me, and I know I've heard the name be mentioned by the prawn before. Let me continue reading."

She turns the page.

???: PART 1 - WHO IS WREN?

Wren is the final hero of calamity, destined to be lost to time. She was known for her animal companion (a prawn named "The Destroyer"), as well as the fact that she had two attunements. However, the repercussions of having two was much less well-known at the time, and she seemed unaware of her strongly reduced lifespan. However, she still lived to the age of 40, although she quickly grew brittle in those last years.

Wren was a mother of three, her clutch being sired by a tom named "Flick Astion". Her oldest child was a queen named "Mire", known for her powerful elemental attunement to water. Mire is the current leader of the erasure initiative leading to this book's creation.

MX-Z0: ...Her confusion grows as she reads further, each word feeling like a fading memory...but as she tries to continue her translation-

The Lost: Swipe.

As if materializing from behind her head, Paradi appears to snatch the book with their talons. They flutter in the air, just beyond Mixzo and Don's grasp.

"Well, well, learning too much far too early aren't we? Good thing I stopped you before you bit off more than you could chew."

Don: "Ah!! Bird!!" He hisses. "What the hell!? Ahah...hah...give us the book back! We need that!"

The Lost: "You need nothing, and I need my secrets," they reply. "Oh...and if you were to read all of this, then something unfortunate might just happen far too early. Everything comes in due time~."

MX-Z0: "..."

She beeps, although it sounds more like a bitcrushed growl. "I do not permit you to be in my dorm. Take the book if you wish, but leave."

The Lost: "...That can be done."

Without another word, both them and the book look to vanish with a sparkle.

Don: "...Oh....ah..."

He seems..disappointed. Although it's hard to tell with that wet smile of his still warbling on his face.

"...Did you learn anything, Mix?"

MX-Z0: "...I did."

Her eyes tense into focus, antennae perked up in thought. "...This Wren individual is important enough for Paradi to not want us to know too much about them...but there is one person who may know more, if I can get them to talk."

Don: "Ah? Who?"

MX-Z0: "...The Destroyer. The prawn."

With a new resolve, she begins walking out of the room. "I have to go find him, and see what I can do."

Don: "Ah-hah! Uuu...can I come along, too? Surely you'll need some support!"

MX-Z0: "...I suppose. Thank you, dad."

The two of them depart, on a quest for answers.
